Come join Air Energi in this contract position for 1 year (with potential option to renew on yearly basis) you will be providing services in connection with the development of one of Newfoundland and Labrador's Oil and Gas projects. The Structural Engineer will be required to perform the following activities including, but not limited to:
Responsibilities and duties:
- Provide structural engineering and design surveillance, stewardship and expertise to the IPM contractors - Steward the IPM contractors' activities with respect to engineering execution including: - Ensure contractor complies with engineering execution plans, procedures, objectives, and overall job requirements - Ensure that the contractor employs the appropriate design tools, including computer hardware and software - Ensure that the contractor adheres to all appropriate specifications and standards - Ensure that the contractor considers constructability during design and interface with the Construction team to confirm alignment on constructability issues - Ensure that the contractor provides all contract deliverables, including those referred to in the job spec. - Ensure contractor is controlling the work, i.e. accurate and timely progress measurement and reporting - Ensure compliance with contractor design verification processes - Measurement and reporting of physical progress - Preparation of the technical specifications to be used for material procurement, fabrication and installation of the structures and components - Review of vendor data for completeness of information required for structural design and compliance with project specifications - Procurement of structural items including preparation of specifications, bid evaluations, bid tabulations, bid recommendations, etc. - Transportation and transportation fatigue analyses as required - Control of structural interfaces - Responsible for the timely resolution of issues and interfaces associated with the structural design. - Maintain close and frequent liaison with all appropriate members of Project Management Team (Safety, IPM Project Engineers, Execution, Construction, Quality), IPM contractors and UPM teams to communicate issues and facilitate interfaces. - Gain alignment with the contractor and Project Structural Lead on engineering needs, objectives, and requirements. - Advise Structural Lead of emerging issues within contractors' structural design organization (e.g., technical, staffing, schedule slippage, Quality concerns, potential commercial issues) - Conduct regular briefing sessions with Project Structural Lead with respect to status updates, issue resolution and accomplishments. - Provide input to Structural lead for reporting including preparation of weekly reports, progress reports, technical reports, charts, sketches, etc. - Coordinate all involvement in structural activities and reviews by UPM team, Operations, Functional Teams, and other parties; includes interaction with contractor's personnel - Evaluate and process Contractors queries, deviation requests, change requests, etc. in accordance with Project change management processes - Review lessons learned from previous projects and evaluate applicability to Project - Responsible for the engineering delivery schedule for structural deliverables and critical milestones; work with contractor to develop and steward recovery plans to address any schedule delays. - Actively work with the execution and installation teams to develop and implement the optimum execution plan - Review the weight report, provide input to the weight engineer and actively pursue weight savings opportunities
Qualifications:
Thorough and working knowledge of: - Structural engineering and design principles, theories, and concepts - Applicable codes, standards (API, AISC and AWS), and trade practices - Working knowledge and expert judgment in the selection and application of structural analyses hardware and software such as SACS, MOSES, ANSYS, ALGOR and/or CAP/Seastar structural analysis software. - Bachelor of Science degree in structural engineering - 10+ years of closely related professional engineering experience associated with offshore design, fabrication and installation, 5+ years of which should be at the Senior Structural Engineer level - Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs, Lotus Notes, etc. - Willing and able to travel as required
