Job Description

DONG Energy is a large national integrated energy company, the E&P department of which explores for and produces oil and natural gas in Denmark, Norway and the UK. DONG Energy is also Denmark’s leading producer of electrical power and wind energy.

DONG E&P’s facilities in Denmark, Norway and the UK encompass exploration, appraisal and development operations in each of the three countries, both as Operator and as non-operating partner.

Headquartered in Hørsholm, 25 kilometres north of Copenhagen, we employ around 660 people who are part of DONG Energy’s total workforce of more than 6.000 people. Subsidiary E&P offices are located in Esbjerg, Stavanger, London and Aberdeen.

DONG E&P is focusing on a broad variety of exploration and appraisal projects across the Central and Northern North Sea Area as well as along the Norwegian Shelf and in the Barents Sea and West of Shetland. Besides, exploration activities also include licence areas on the Faroese Shelf and offshore Greenland. These large and variably explored areas presently form the key priority for DONG E&P to deliver a profitable development in a responsible way.

We are now looking for an experienced operations geologist to join our team.

Your tasks and responsibilities
You will work with subsurface peers as a technical member of a multi-disciplined team and will be responsible for Operations Geology input to the ongoing exploration, appraisal and development projects with focus on timely well planning, safe execution, and thorough final well reporting and well specific fit-for-purpose post-well studies.

You will become a key member of one of our Operations Teams that will be developing plans for short to long-term projects across the abovementioned areas in close cooperation with our Well Construction departments, a number of Asset Teams as well as licence partners. Some exploration, appraisal and development projects reach into HPHT working conditions, for which reason operational insight in this field is also required.

Specific tasks will be to:

  • Plan, execute and report several exploration, appraisal or production wells per year
  • Create well prognoses regarding  stratigraphic, pressure/wellbore stability and temperature expectations
  • Develop data acquisition programmes, contingencies and prepare for post-well studies
  • Define and communicate well programmes to project team, licence partners and wellsite geologists
  • Interface with wellsite geologists & drilling engineers to communicate well programmes, including risking and mitigation of possible geo-hazards and potential drilling problems
  • Interface with petrophysicists and logging companies to optimise logging programmes and communicate results
  • Confirm core and casing points, and “Geo-steer” horizontal wells using live LWD logs and cuttings/gas analyses
  • Interface with production geologists to communicate well results
  • Insure appropriate distribution and archiving of data from drilling projects.

The position is located in Hørsholm, Denmark. However, flexibility to work part time and independently outside the headquarter as supervisor for UK and/or Norwegian operations may be required as operational activities increase along the Norwegian and UK shelves.

Besides high technical quality, DONG E&P puts much emphasis in achieving the targeted goals in a safe, environmentally unharmful and healthy manner. The common project language is English.

Your profile

You hold a Bachelor or Master of Science in Geology - or equivalent field of study and have 3-6 years' experience as an independently working Operations Geologist. Well site and offshore experience a must and knowledge of North Sea stratigraphy and sedimentology preferred. Applied geomechanics skills and understanding of HPHT conditions required. Furthermore we expect proficiency in English (the main communications language) - and experience with computer tools like Excel, Petrel and Predict.

As a person you enjoy making sense of large data sets by use of creative and dynamic thinking and you must integrate and communicate well with others outside the G&G field. You have a high ability to multitask, prioritize projects and challenge new areas of expertise.

We offer

DONG E&P offers an interesting, dynamic, responsible and meaningful job with a competitive salary and flexible benefit package. For the right candidate we offer long term employment in an international working environment with the possibility to work independently as well as in dynamic and competitive teams of high technical expertise. You will be offered refreshment of and participation in new courses as required, including safety and offshore. There will be a possibility of travelling and working part-time in Stavanger and/or London/Aberdeen according to business needs.
