Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Rock Mechanics Petrophysicist located in Houston, Texas.
Rock Mechanics Petrophysist with a primary function to lead formation evaluation support for the geomechanical services provided to the strategic business units (SBU’s). Specifically, providing petrophysical analysis for application in the areas of wellbore stability, sand production prediction, and mechanical earth modeling. In this role some strategic research and technology development will be conducted as a secondary function. Primary business objective is to reduce well cost and/or optimize development plans and well production by providing focused customer service.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Provide necessary petrophysics support for Rock Mechanics Team.
Support RMT on current state of logging tools and processing for mechanical properties analysis, especially in the field of acoustic waveform processing.
Provide Rock Mechanics Analysis training & promote rock mechanics technology in petrophysics community.
Advise on logging technical standards for rock mechanical purposes.
Support use and development of in-house Rock Mechanics Analysis (RMA) program.
Facilitate integration of multiple methods of determining stress and mechanical properties in Mechanical Earth Models (MEM).
Projects will require the rock mechanics Petrophysicist to work with RMT and SBU customers to gain alignment on scope, schedule, budget and creation of the work order.
Deliverables in the form of Geolog projects/files, Word documents or PowerPoint slide decks are required for most projects.
Supports strategic research (SR) and technology development (TD) initiatives by proposing, leading and/or participating in SR/TD activities as needed.
Additional expectations are that the petrophysicist keeps abreast of the industry and ensures that Chevron maintains a high profile and competitive edge in the field of rock mechanics.
Activities in this expectation include: knowledge transfer to non-geomechanics personnel in SBU and ETC, formal training in RMA/geomechanics, and informal mentoring/coaching of petrophysics practitioners.
Majority of requests expected to be supporting geomechanics analysis for well bore stability analysis for drilling, sanding analysis for safe draw-down & completion-support including fracture treatment design considerations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science with a Geology discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience.
Strong knowledge of petrophysics especially the analysis of acoustic logs.
Has general earth science/geology expertise, with fundamental knowledge of drilling and completion practices.
High competancy in GEOLOG an advantage; coding skills an advantage.
Strong written and oral communication skills required.
Technical report writing skills and strong skills in Word and PowerPoint are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidate should be comfortable managing several technical projects concurrently, as they may have to manage 4 or more technical service requests and/or technical development or research projects at any given time.
Previous knowledge and application of geomechanics an advantage
Knowledge of database systems and GIS an advantage.
Experience with or knowledge of Mechanical Earth Modeling (MEM) software including Gocad and Geolog an advantage.
