The Process Safety Engineer is accountable for process safety compliance and delivery across the BP-Husky Refinery. This position provides technical process safety guidance and support, creating competitive advantage through distinctive performance, innovative strategies, and responsible plant operations. This position provides a key partnership role in leading process safety performance across the plant, interacting with managers, superintendents, supervisors, and represented crafts and operators. In addition, this position is responsible for compliance with OSHA PSM 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA RMP 40 CFR 68. Key accountabilities
- Advocate, promote, and institutionalize process safety practices - Provide leadership and innovative strategies to deliver on Process Safety performance - Work jointly with Operations, Asset and Technical Groups and their Support teams to establish continuous improvement plans and drive results - Perform process hazard analysis and Layer of Protection Analysis for covered process units and engineering projects - Perform Management of Change and Pre Startup Safety Reviews. - Work with Operations to ensure that operating procedures are recertified annually to be current and accurate. - Perform Process Safety audits, identify discrepancies, and drive corrections as needed - Lead incident investigations - Understands and is compliant with all Control of Work (CoW) and Process Safety policies and procedures - Interact with refinery line personnel to resolve Process Safety questions and concerns - Provide on-call coverage on a periodic basis - Represent the plant during OSHA visits and in the community during emergency response activities - Represent the plant during BP Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) network activities
Essential Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or technical field is required.
Essential experience and job requirements
- Previous Process Safety experience in refining, chemical or nuclear industries. - Working knowledge of OSHA 1910.119(management of highly hazardous chemicals). - Working knowledge of EPA Risk Management Plan 40 CFR part 68.
