Role SynopsisThe successful incumbent will act as a senior authority for wells operations globally, providing assurance on operational quality and capability of personnel in safety critical roles. The role holder will be part of a small team of subject matter experts (SME’s) who are responsible for assuring safe, compliant and reliable operations within the Global Wells Organisation (GWO). This position is ideal for senior operations personnel seeking broader exposure to GWO operations and with a passion for driving learning and improvement in operating organisations. As Area Operating Authority you will also work within the deployed Safety and Operational Risk (S&OR) team within the Global Wells Organisation (GWO) reporting to the Global Wells Operating Authority. You will also have a strong dotted line reporting relationship to the Wells Area VP’s. The Global Wells Area Operating Authorities support the management of operating risk in Global Wells.The role of the Area Operating Authority is critical to clearly setting and assuring compliance with the Operating requirements of OMS for the Global Wells Organisation, across 13 Regions throughout the world.As an Offshore Operating Authorities, you will: 1. Be regarded as a senior operations leader who provides deep operational expertise to GWO, including the coaching of safety critical operational leaders in safe, reliable operations. 2. Maintain an independent view of the quality of GWO operations at sites, including conducting frequent risk based site specific assurance of operations (including intervening as necessary). This will include providing S&OR and the Area VP in GWO with an independent view of operating quality and recommendations for improvement.3. Provide S&OR assessment of the capability (technical and leadership) of individuals and teams in safety critical operations roles4. Key Accountabilities

Provide deep operational expertise to GWO, including the coaching of safety critical operational leaders in safe, compliant and reliable operations to ensure the continuous improvement of GWO operations.
• Develop and maintain an independent view of the quality, culture and health of GWO operations at sites and intervening as necessary
• Provide rigorous S&OR assessment of the capability (technical and leadership) of individuals and teams in safety critical operations roles either directly or through assessors (as needed)
• Ensure high quality operating practices are developed in Global Wells that reduce risk and can be readily operationalised in wells activities around the world
• Provide independent S&OR input to the operating community in wells, the community is hosted by GWO engineering

Key Challenges
• Building relationships between the deployed Wells S&OR and GWO organisations.
• Building strong relationships with the Global Culture, Capability and Competency (CCC) organisation in S&OR to ensure operational leadership expectations are clearly set and supporting GWO in assessing and developing leaders against them
• Working in close partnership with the GWO operation community to support the growth of a robust operations discipline in GWO including an understanding and support for the role of Area Operating Authority within GWO.
• Ensuring that Operating Practices which are new to GWO are standardised, implemented and lessons learned shared across the 13 Regions which make up the GWO.
• Developing strong safety culture leadership behaviours of GWO through implementation of the Operating Practices and coaching and support.
• Maintaining a clear independent view of risk to inform the Area VPs and Deployed S&OR. Close working relationships with the Area VPS will be required as part of the role.

Any Other Relevant Information
This role will require strategic planning of how long term Operating assurance will be assured within GWO and development of metrics to ensure that operational continuous improvement is being delivered. This will include planning for ongoing Operating Practices implementation and embedding and competency assessment within GWO.

Education

Degree qualification or equivalent

Essential experience and job requirements 

Wells operating leadership experience in multiple jurisdictions.
• A track record of commitment to leadership development and safety culture leadership
• A track record of effective coaching with working teams in operating organisations
• Ability to interface with key leaders within BP.
• Demonstrated leader of culture change
• Recognized coach 
• Strong communication skills, ability to work though global networks
• Proven ability to develop clear plans when dealing with complex and uncertain situations
• Ability to make a difference and add value to BP.
