Responsibilities:
The Materials and Corrosion Engineer is part of the Mechanical, Materials and Integrity (MMI) Delivery Group. The vision and goals of the delivery group (and of the individual) are as follows: -
To be a service provider of first choice with a clear added value for materials and corrosion engineering services. To work in global alignment with other regions, and disciplines, most especially the inspection, mechanical and process technology skill pools
To work for Shell operating companies, joint ventures and non-Shell customers as activity leader or via other activity leaders within MMI, or from process technology and/or project groups
To be part of a learning organization in which it is rewarding to work and knowledge is shared effectively across the regions. To participate in industry consortia's (e.g. JIP's, NACE, MTI) and standards (e.g. API/ISO) meetings
To lead or participate in process-related and/or equipment area initiatives concerning reliability, availability, operability, integrity, technology deployment, material selection for projects
Accountabilities
You’ll be able to provide support to existing facilities including;
Shutdown planning and risk based assessments. Material specification and prequalification and material failure investigations. Turnaround inspection, repair recommendations and overall quality assurance
Troubleshooting and technical support for corrosion and materials issues in operating plant equipment in refineries, petrochemical facilities, pipelines and upstream surface facilities
Process equipment operating data analysis and interpretations, as it relates to the control of integrity operating windows. Emphasis is on corrosion degradation mechanism identification and control
Preparation and/or review of corrosion control documents or corrosion control strategies for key process units in downstream, upstream, and/or gas assets. Project support / quality assurance for materials selection, understanding the process parameters impacting corrosion and equipment life
Establish competency requirements / profiles for both the team and site technical support personnel. Global training to support the competency requirements. Technology gate keeping / monitoring to assess appropriate application of high value added M&C technologies to enhance our business
Guidance and ownership of technology development, engineering standards and best practices. Support the development of risk-based inspection plans based on corrosion mechanisms of interest
Ability to develop and use corrosion models to predict corrosion rates and determine methods to control. Ability to perform failure diagnosis and mitigation work on degraded components
Maintain relationships with internal team members and stakeholders (other discipline engineers, service managers, project and process engineers, etc). Comply with corporate and P&T standards and work processes
Requirements:
You’ll have BSc or higher in chemical or materials engineering. Significant professional experience in the M&C discipline is required with a solid background in engineering. As well as, knowledge in the field of process technology, metallurgy, welding, equipment design and corrosion degradation modes.
Field experience is a prerequisite. Process safety engineering experience or HEMP/LOPA studies is a strong advantage. Mastery level of competence is required within materials selection and specification, corrosion control systems design and management, and investigation of equipment failure.
Part of a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll have excellent communication, advocacy and influencing skills supported by experience in delivering through others. We are seeking a candidate that listens and queries to understand customer problems, analyses and can identify appropriate solutions to address these problems.
