SBM Atlantia is currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer with 2-5 years of related work experience with offshore geotechnical (foundation) designs. The Geotechnical Engineer will review geophysical data and geotechnical data, and select appropriate design soil parameters; determine the optimum anchoring methods and equipment appropriate to the safe for offshore structures; perform geotechnical foundation designs; and answer queries arising from clients, contractors or internal Company departments on moorings and geotechnical matters.
In addition, the Geotechnical Engineer will work as a field representative for SBMA or its clients for our offshore geophysical and geotechnical surveys, and help SBM-Offshore internal Companies perform geotechnical design/analysis.
The position requires familiarity with discipline engineering principles and procedures, and the ability to apply these, either directly or through the supervision of other engineers assigned to the project.
Skills/Abilities:
Qualified candidates must have solid understanding of soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering and foundation design; ability to learn new engineering software and apply engineering principles to the design and analysis work; good math skills; good writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills. Moreover, candidates should be familiar with some of the offshore engineering codes: API RP 2A, API RP 2SK, ISO, ABS Rules, DNV Rules, etc.
Software experience:
Exposure to some of the following software is desirable: BMCOL77, LPILE, COM64, GRL-WEAP, PLAXIS, SACS, ABAQUS, ANSYS and Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
Relevant work experience:
Work experience with offshore geophysical/geotechnical survey
and geotechnical foundation designs (i.e., anchor pile, suction anchor, PLEM, GBS, and drag anchor, etc.) for offshore structures is required. Some experience with hydrodynamic engineering or ocean engineering is preferred.
Bachelors Degree with 5 years relevant experience or Masters Degree and 3 years relevant experience.
Education:
Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Civil, Geotechnical or Engineering Geology) with preference given to candidates having an advanced degree in geotechnical engineering.
