My client a medium sized operator with international interests are currently looking to recruit an Exploration Geologist to join their team based out of the London office. The role is full-time and candidates will need to be able to commute daily. The client are looking for a candidate with strong stratigraphy and basin analysis skills.
Candidates will have strong technical skills, particularly in sequence stratigraphy, basin analysis and prospect generation, and be familiar with the latest exploration techniques and computer-based exploration applications. They should have a good BSc Honours degree in Geology, ideally a post-graduate qualification and circa five years experience with an established operator, gaining a solid grounding in the integrated interpretation of borehole and 2D/3D seismic datasets to evaluate the regional geology and generate drillable exploration prospects. Previous wellsite, operations geology and formation evaluation experience would be an advantage. Some international experience and knowledge of French and/or Spanish would be advantageous, but not essential. As for personal qualities, candidates must be highly motivated professionals with an outgoing, positive personality and able to thrive in the smaller company setting. They must also be good team players with a confident and assertive manner and have developed excellent communication skills.

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the successful candidate will work closely with other geoscientists to ensure optimum evaluation of exploration acreage, providing the geological input to operated block evaluations, regional/basin studies, evaluation of new opportunities and prospect generation. He/she will have broad ranging technical responsibilities, including play fairway description, prospect evaluation including risk analysis and volumetric estimations, as well as co-ordinating the exploration well planning, preparing well proposals, holding regular progress meetings and presenting the results and recommendations to senior management. Perenco has a very active operated Exploration drilling programme enabling the Project Geologist to directly influence and experience the full exploration process.
The company has a relatively flat management structure and looks for individuals able to thrive in an environment with substantial individual autonomy and can develop roles that encompass both active team leadership and in-depth technical analysis. He/she will have considerable freedom to act, with the opportunity to take geological projects from regional basin-wide evaluations through to prospect generation and subsequent appraisal without undue supervision.
